I really get disappointed when people decides to charge me when a service was free in the first place. Don't know what I am talking about?
Well, Healthy Textures, a site that I have been devoted to, recently decided to charge its members for exclusive features on their new site starting November 1st.
Now I am not a hater and I thought it was a good idea. I checked what features was reserved for the members, and seriously it was nothing spectacular.
It promotes videos you can watch to style your hair ( YouTube - Free)
Dozens of healthy hair articles written by professional stylists (YouTube, Google Search - Free)
Printable list and tips (Google Search - Free)
Chat and Share in a private forum (http://forum.blackhairplanet.com/ and so many more - free)
And really the list goes on.
I can completely understand that Macherie needs to make profit, but really the Ning network is working on its own. By that, I mean members are feeding it with blogs, photos, videos and whatnot. There is no upkeep and Ning is a free network.
As for TypePad, yes you do have to pay. I am paying mine now. The most expensive would be 89.95$ per month. I hope she is not using that one cause that would be ridiculous. I am currently using the Plus version for 8.95$ a month. Check it out @: http://www.typepad.com/pricing/
Now, for those who say a service is never free, I totally agree. This is why you have ads. I have them and I sell products. She has ads AND she charges for her RollerSet DVD (which is justified), she charges for a personal regimen (justified as well), and she has TopSpots.
I guess I am just thoroughly disappointed that she would start charging, especially when she doesn't really have anything to offer more in my opinion. I am somewhat glad that she will keep a free version of the site, but if the social aspect is gone, I am out.
There is just no need to pay for this service when you can search it for free. I am just going to take notes ad write down products and reggies, before the big transition. Also, I am keeping note to which sisters will start their own network.
I do believe that Macherie is an excellent entrepreneur and she MUST be hiding something in her sleeves. I am really torn, but hey, who knows... In the end, I might end up paying as well. Hopefully the RollerSet DVD will be included! And if the Relaxer DVD is included, I am signing up as a annual member!!
