Hey, I'm going to ottawa somtime to get my hair into micro-braids. And I was just wondering if you know the prices from these solons, the websites you've given don't give their prices. It would be a great help.

Thanks - Jayde

Tainna

@ Jayde:

Hey, the best thing I can recommend to you is to call the places. I never got micro-braids done, therefore I cannot help you out.

Let me know how it goes!

Jonika

I also recommend the Hair Gallery on Montreal Road. Karlene is fantastic! The phone number is 613-241-2300. Cheers!

Michelle

Hey Ive been looking for Neutrogena Triple Moisture everywhere and cant find it... I hear so many good things about it and want to try it out really badly but i cant seem to find it any where is Ottawa.. I tried Mama Cee and my local pharmacies and Wal Marts and nothing....

Any suggestions?

Tainna

Hi Michelle,
I got Neutrogena Triple Moisture at Wal-Mart! And I believe I saw them at Shoppers and Uniprix.

I can't believe you didn't see them yet :(

I know that Mama Cee's do not carry them, but they should be at Wal-Mart... It's so weird!

Beatrice

There is one other beauty salon it is called The Hair Gallery located on Montreal Rd I cannot recall rhe exact address but they do excellent work there they are listed.

Tamika

I was not impressed with Scissor Hands (rude service) or Mama Cee's (badly applied relaxer) and wouldn't go back to either.

Courtney

I just arrived home after a pleasant morning at the salon :)
I would definitely suggest Slick and Sassy on Bank Street for all of your hair care needs. I have shoulder length hair. I had my hair relaxed, coloured and then blown out straight. It was a wonderful experience and I really like that for the whole three hours the focus was on my hair care and no distractions. Excellent customer service. I also like that the salon is for all people. The salon specilaizes in curly hair. It caters to people of all backgrounds, which is nice.
Moreover, I was able to have some facial waxing done which is convenient. This is definitely the salon I would choose in Ottawa for my hair care needs. I would recommend Slick and Sassy to all women who want a professional taking care of their hair :)

Nika

I just moved to Ottawa and I would like to know where to buy the hair weave from...I do my own weave and micro braids so I am not interested in the salon. Please tell me where the beauty supplies stores are.

Tainna

@Nika

Hi Nika! Welcome to Ottawa.

Places I have been and would recommend is Tropicks and Mama Cee.

I like Tropicks, cause it's close to home and they have decent prices.

MamaCee on the other hand, offers a wider range of hair and products and this is where I usually pick up a new product to test and review!

If you live near the university, Tropicks is super close, so I would check out that place. If you do not find anything to your liking, try MamaCee, since I think they will have what you are looking for!

I am planning on getting a weave soon, I so might be doing those stores this weekend :)

Emilie

I recommend In Ting Beauty Shop, it is GREAT, Janice the main hairdresser is so sweet and she really takes her time on your hair and manages it with CARE!!! She is so pleasant to be around and polite! TOO MANY HAIRDRESSERS ARE RUDE AND CANNOT JUST BE NICE!

kiki

OHHHHH GOODNESS!!! THANKS A TON!!! I just moved here and for the past months, I always had to go back home to Montreal to get my hair done!! You definitely saved the day..or the hair lol

Wadye Morton

Thanks for the website - I have short curly hair which is colored and want to assure that I can get a good cut and style. I am from the States and travel back there for business, so have been getting my hair done there, but that is getting old. Please let me know if one of the locations you recommends does great cuts.

Modern Ottawa

Thank you very much for this post!

I recently moved to Ottawa and was reticent in trying any hair salon I didn't know so I went back to Montreal until I read people's comments on this post and decided to try Slick and Sassy. I'm glad I did and I will go back again.

Enna did my hair. She's been in the business for quite some time. I have a bit longer than shoulder length and was 12 week post relaxer. She was gentle with my hair, she seems to know what she's doing, she made sure to put relaxer only on the new growth, she protected the already relaxed hair, she also evaluated my hair before doing anything to it. I am very happy with the result.

Also, her place is clean and professional.

Thanks again.

wow im so happy that sites like this are available, i just moved to ottawa for school and a government job and my hair to say nonetheless is pathetic; its been in brains for forever, and the undergrowth is unpleasant. i came across this website thankfully and i have an appointment this wednesday , the receptionist was very lovely. however i just have a question regarding the closest hair supply store so i can take out my braids before the appointment. i leave on the ottawa U campus any suggestions?

Marcia

Hello...omgawd...bless you for posting this..i swear. My hairstylist moved and i am panicking, i need someone to do my weave lol Thank you for posting this! Any suggestions for best place to get a weave done? Thanks!

I just moved to Ottawa from "Cowtown" so any place with options is great. I think i'll try Slick and Sassy since one of the postees suggest that they don't do only black hair, and i prefer versatility in saloons. I have long natural hair which is currently blonde, so i'll prefer someone that knows how to color black hair and keep natural hair healthy..and if she can twist it too...brownie points. If there are any natural sisters in the house, please let me know if there are other options i should check out. Will prefer a stylist or salon that can flat iron, as well as twist.

Sunrays

hey everyone!
I currently live in ottawa and i've had natural hair since i was born. I usually just have cornrows or single plats but i'm really getting sick of them. I want to try having an afro but i'm completly lost when it comes to what kind of products I could use to make my hair softer.
please help!!

Modern Ottawa

Hey Sunrays! I used to have natural hair. I learned a lot and I found a lot of good info from other natural hair girls on You Tube. Check out these two:
1. Rustic Beauty
http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticBeauty
2. Saxygurl8
http://www.youtube.com/user/saxygurl8

They both have incredibly great looking long natural hair and great tips.

Good luck!

!!!!BAD EXPERIENCE AT SLICK AND SASSY!!!!!

I tried out Slick and Sassy today for a trim and hair treatment. The service was so unprofessional, and the trim has left my hair uneven and the worst part was I called first and asked the cost then was charged DOUBLE at the end of my experience. THEY ARE NOT UPFRONT AND WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF.

I ended up having to pay $68.75 for a bad trim and 20 minute long leave-in conditioner under a portable electric heater!!!! - Further, she, Anna, would not tell me the specific product she was using.

When I politely reminded her that I had called first and asked for the quote of price and was told $35...she said that was the cost of the "treatment" and the hair cut was an additional $37 (with 20% for the added service).

She then TURNED HER BACK ON ME and handed me the debit terminal.

WHO DOES BUSINESS THIS WAY?!?!?!

SO frustrating. I will not be returning nor do I recommend it.

Andrea

ps, Thanks so much for this useful website and forum.

Marie-Eve

hi everybody! I am planning on getting a haircut cause I am tired of having long, thick, wavy hair it gives me headaches and neck pains so I plan on getting a very shot haircut, does anyone know a good place for that and not very expensive?
