Atmosphere:
This salon has a casual atmosphere going on. I arrived there and wasn't too impress by the decor, however I never really go to salons for the decor, so I was not bothered.
As usual, I was able to read up on decade old magazines, while I eavesdropped on what other ladies are talking about.
Service:
This section will be divided in two parts; One for Merveille and the other for the owner.
Merveille:
She is from Trinidad and Tobago and has a lot experience with hair. The last time I saw her, she was wearing braids which suited her nicely. (She is also the one who braided them)
I got weaves placed on my hair, and she did a great job. (Got it done three times with her!) She is a quick braider and knows how to properly sew the hair on your braids without making it bulge.
My only criticism is that she can be too fast, and sometimes it can be painful. Also, monitor her at the end. Once, she told me she was finished and I did not like how my "bangs" were placed. She gladly redid them, so do not be afraid to ask for changes. (it's you head in the end!)
Owner:
After having my weaves on for about 9 months, I got sick of them and wanted to relax my own hair. Also, I was getting more and more interested in taking care of my hair without hairdressers interfering with it.
Unfortunately, Merveille does not relax your hair. The owner has that privilege. So, I agreed. Merveille undid my weaves, except in the front. My hair was quite long and she was very proud.
Sadly, since the owner never knew how long my hair was she assumed that she could just go ahead and chop off a chunk of the weave in front, instead of not being lazy and undoing it properly. This resulted in me having 3 inches of my hair in front being shorter than everything else.
I was furious!
She sort of apologized but said that she couldn't have known that my hair was so long. Yeah, uh-huh.
Worst is that she proceeded to relax my hair even though she just cut it. I didn't know then, but that's a MAJOR bad idea. This resulted in having my front ends being super frizzy.
I was livid!
Then, she rinse, did an instant deep condition, roller set and applied DAX to my hair. Leaving my hair super greasy and weighed down. Yuck!
Even without chopping my hair, the DAX was enough to make me realise that this was not the place for me to relax my hair. Plus, she forgot an area and was not able to "style" my hair in any way. Yep, I looked like a greased sheep with I was done...
Cost:
The cost are pretty decent!
Weave was about 75$ and the relaxer was about the same price. (This was a year ago, so things could have changed.)
Conclusion:
I would definitely go back for the weaves, but never to relax my hair.

75$ for a weave...wow
i can not believe that happened to you! I would be so furious. I am still in search for the right weave specialist at an affordable price. before i used to go to Souls Parlor in Barrhaven but my hairstylist moved! :( The price was good, 180$ for the weave + the hair you want, is provided. They also do cut and styling. I don't know if they got new staff but my hairstylist was the one who knew the weaving technique there. Love your blog! xxx

i've been there many times, and i agree Merveille is awsome ! she's done like 5 weaves for me and they were all great, and it's $60 now not $75. I guess Merveille does perms now , because she relaxed my hair not to long ago, after rinsing out the relaxer from my hair she blow dried it, braided the front ,and curled the back , it looked great! you know what elese was great? the price ,it cost me only $45 (i bought my own relaxer ,it's more expensive if you don't) anyway it's a great place and i highly recomend Merveille

Wow,I was reading you blog and it was sad that it din't work out for you at this salon. As for me I have been going to this salon for 10+ years and I have to say,I have never had any problems.I have had hair for the past 10 years that was relaxed only by the owner and my hair has always been pass my shoulder almost
mid-back.She did a wonder full job everytime on my hair. She never cut or put the wronge relaxer in my hair at all.Its too bad that this happen to you and since I am the expert on growing long beautyful black hair for myself,I always told friends and people on the street were I got my hair done, plus how I care for it at home, myself.Currently I have cut my hair off to about 1 inch and I will be starting to dread it in the next few months. If you wanna get tips on haircare I could let you know.email me at mahenry2004@hotmail.com.Good luck on your hair:-)
